Krishna Jayanthi and Prasads
Story of Krishna Jayanthi
Krishna Jayanthi is the celebration of the birth (INCARNATION) of Lord Krishna, who is believed to be the Supreme God - PARAMATHMA.
Since he was born on the Astami thithi - the eighth day in the Krishna Paksha, His Jayanthi has been known as JANMASTAMI or KRISHNA JANMASTAMI.
Krishna, born to Devaki - Vasudeva in the prison of Kansa - his uncle, Vasudeva took Krishna across river Yamuna to Gokul where Vasudeva's best friend Nanda and his wife Yashoda resides. Vasudeva, immersed in illusionary dream, replaced Krishna with the girl baby - INCARNATION of Yoga Maya - who was born to Nanda Gopa - Yashoda.
So, Krishna was raised in Gokul as Nanda Gopa - Yashoda's Child. As the Supreme God, Krishna stole the hearts of all in Gokul. As they all love and care Krishna, they celebrated him as their own child. This became the habit of Hindus, believing Krishna, their child!
From here, the practice of celebrating Krishna Jayanthi starts. By making variety of sweets and savouries together with Krishna's favourite BUTTER the families celebrate Krishna Jayanthi.
Almost every Hindu family, whether they believe God or not, dress up their children as Radha or Krishna and celebrates Janmastami in one or the other way.
